BUGGO Terms of Use
Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
The short version
- BUGGO is an app for parents and carers of babies and young children. You must be 18 or over to have an account.
- You share what a place is like for families ("Bugging" it). Other families see your Buggs. Be honest, be kind, and keep children's names out of what you write.
- BUGGO is free. Passport+ is an optional subscription bought through the app store you downloaded BUGGO from. The store shows the price, the billing period and any free trial before you confirm. It renews automatically until you cancel in the store. If Passport+ ends, you keep everything you made.
- Family Scores, amenities, notes and BUGGO AI answers come from other families and from AI. They can be wrong or out of date. Check before you go, and always look after your children yourself.
- The map and place details come from Google Maps; Google's terms apply to those parts.
- Where you got BUGGO from Apple's App Store, Apple's standard app licence also applies. These terms cover the BUGGO service.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
- Nothing in these terms takes away your legal rights as a consumer.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
BUGGO is run by [OWNER NAME], a sole trader trading as BUGGO, [POSTAL ADDRESS] ("BUGGO", "we", "us"). We are not registered for VAT.
Contact us at hello@getbuggo.app, or from the Contact BUGGO row in the app's Settings.
These terms are a contract between you and us for the BUGGO service: your account, Bugging, Plans, Trips, the Passport, Passport+ and BUGGO AI, in the app and on our website [WEBSITE]. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data; it is not part of this contract.
You accept these terms when you create an account: the sign-up flow shows these terms and the Privacy Policy and asks you to confirm you are 18 or over before your account is created.
The app licence — your right to install and run the app — is in section 10.
2. Who can use BUGGO
- You must be 18 or over and live in the United Kingdom to create an account.
- Accounts are for parents and carers. Children may look at the Passport and peel Stickers on your phone while you are with them, but a child must never have their own account or sign in.
- An account belongs to a Family. A Family has up to 6 adults. The Family's main member can invite a partner or carer with a single-use link that works for 7 days. Everyone in a Family sees everything in it, including your children's details and Memories, and sees the name taken from your sign-in email. The main member can remove you (your sign-in stays) and decides whether the Family is deleted.
- Give true information, and keep your sign-in email up to date.
- Keep your phone and email secure. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using your account.
3. What BUGGO does
- Map and places. Shows places near you (or near the area you choose) with a Family Score and the amenities families found: step-free access, changing table, high chair, kids' menu, toilet, space to run, parking and room for a buggy.
- Bugging. You record how a visit went: a one-tap verdict (excellent, good or difficult), which amenities you checked, and an optional note. Every visit is a new Bugg.
- Family Score. A number from 0 to 100 worked out from the verdicts in each family's latest Bugg at a place, always shown with how many families it comes from. It is not a review of the business and not a safety rating.
- Plans and Trips. Arrange to go to places at a time, alone or with families nearby, and plan days away.
- Passport, Stickers and Chapters. A Bugg made at the place (within 250 metres) earns a Sticker in your Family's Passport. There is a Chapter for each city.
- Memories, Albums and Postcards. Add your own photos to Stickers, make an Album of a Chapter, and make a Postcard to share.
- BUGGO AI (Ask Bugg and more). Optional AI features that suggest places and plans from what families have Bugged, write Album stories and Postcard captions, and check notes. They only work after you switch them on (section 8).
We may change, add or remove features to improve BUGGO, keep it safe or follow the law. If a change materially reduces what you pay for with Passport+, we will tell you at least 30 days in advance and you may cancel and receive a refund for any whole period you have paid for but not received (through the store where you paid, or from us where the store cannot).
4. What you post: Buggs, notes, place names, Plans and your Family name
"Your content" means your Buggs (verdict, amenity answers, note), the name, picture type and city you give a new place, your Plans and Plan notes, your Family name, and your Memories (photos).
You own your content. You give us a licence to use it to run BUGGO. In plain terms, you let us:
- store it and show it in the app to your Family;
- show your Buggs and Plans to other BUGGO families as described in our Privacy Policy (by your Family name if you are visible, or as "a family" if you are hidden);
- use your Buggs to work out Family Scores, amenity counts and how fresh they are, including on our public website — never with your Family name, your note or your children's details;
- if you are the first family to Bugg a place, use the name, picture type and city you gave it as that place's name in BUGGO for everyone, including on our website and in shared images, once it has passed our checks;
- send your content to AI providers only as our Privacy Policy describes and only while your Family has BUGGO AI switched on (other families' AI answers can include your note only if your Family has it on);
- copy, resize or reformat it only as needed to do these things.
The licence is non-exclusive, free of charge, and worldwide (so the app works wherever you are). It ends when you delete that content or your account, except that: totals and scores already worked out from it stay, because they no longer identify you; and the name you gave a place stays as that place's name, because other families' Buggs now sit under it.
Memories are private. Your photos are only for your Family. We never show them to other families, never put them on our website and never send them to an AI model. They leave BUGGO only when you share or save them yourself (for example as a Postcard or an Album PDF).
You are responsible for your content. You confirm you have the right to post it, and that it is honest and follows section 5. Photos you add should be your own.
5. Rules for using BUGGO
Please don't:
- post anything untrue, or Bugg a place you haven't visited;
- post anything abusive, hateful, sexual, threatening or bullying, or anything illegal;
- name or identify a child, post anyone's contact details, or post personal information about anyone (including staff at a place);
- post advertising, or Bugg a place you own, run, work for or are paid by;
- use BUGGO to contact, follow, track or meet a family who hasn't agreed to it;
- copy, scrape or collect data from BUGGO or its website, or use it to train AI models;
- try to get around the Passport+ limits, our security, or the limits on how often features can be used;
- pretend to be someone else, or create more than one Family to get around a block or a suspension.
Meeting other families. Plans take place at real places with people you may not know. BUGGO does not check who other families are. Meet in public places, stay with your children, and use your own judgement. If something worries you, report it (section 6) and, if anyone is in danger, call 999.
6. Moderation, reports and complaints
- How we check content. Notes, place names, city names and Plan notes are checked automatically before other families see them; content that fails is hidden or refused. If your Family has BUGGO AI on, an AI model helps check your Bugg notes; otherwise we use our own word list. Automated checks make mistakes both ways.
- Reporting a Bugg. You can report any Bugg in the app. The note is hidden for you straight away. We review reports within 3 working days and remove content that is illegal or breaks these terms.
- Reporting anything else — a Plan, a place name, a Family name, content you believe is illegal, or content that infringes your rights: email support@getbuggo.app with a link or description, what is wrong, and how to reach you. We will acknowledge it, act on illegal content swiftly once we know about it, and tell you what we did. We keep a record of each report and what we did about it.
- Blocking. You can block a family. You then stop seeing each other's Buggs, until you unblock them.
- What we may do. We may hide or remove content, rename a place, limit features, or suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. We will tell you what we did and why, unless the law or someone's safety stops us.
- Complaints and appeals. If your content was removed, your account was restricted, or you are unhappy with how we handled a report, email support@getbuggo.app and a person will look at it again, acknowledge it within 5 working days and reply within 20 working days. This is also how to complain to us under the Online Safety Act 2023.
7. Passport+ (the subscription)
7.1 What you get
BUGGO is free to download and use. Free includes the map, Bugging, Stickers and the Family Score, one new Plan a week, three Ask Bugg answers a week, and three Memories per Chapter (with the BUGGO mark on the Stamp). The weekly counts restart on Monday at midnight, your phone's time.
Passport+ adds: unlimited Plans and Ask Bugg answers, unlimited Memories, Stamps without the BUGGO mark, the full Album with its PDF and Rewrite (free Families see a preview of the cover and first page), and Postcards in every size.
7.2 Price, period and trial
Passport+ is sold as a monthly and a yearly subscription. The price, the billing period and any free trial are shown by your app store before you confirm, in your local currency and including VAT. At launch the UK prices are £3.99 a month and £29.99 a year; the yearly plan starts with a 14-day free trial if you haven't had one before.
7.3 Who you buy from
You buy Passport+ through the app store you downloaded BUGGO from (Apple's App Store or Google Play), using your store account. The store takes payment and its terms apply to the payment and to refunds it gives. In the UK, Apple sells apps and in-app purchases on developers' behalf as a commissionaire. We are responsible to you for Passport+ itself: that it is as described and works (section 12).
7.4 Automatic renewal
Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year, and the store charges the renewal price to your store account, until you cancel. A free trial turns into a paid yearly subscription when it ends unless you cancel before then. Apple and Google say you should cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial or period to avoid being charged for the next one.
From January 2027, when the UK subscription rules start, we will remind you before a free trial ends and before each yearly renewal, with the price, the date and how to cancel, in the app and by email.
7.5 How to cancel
You can cancel at any time, in one step, in your store account:
- App Store (iPhone): Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › BUGGO, or the "Manage" link in BUGGO's Settings.
- Google Play: Google Play › Profile › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › BUGGO.
Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Passport+ until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting your BUGGO account does not cancel your subscription — cancel in the store too.
7.6 Your right to change your mind, and refunds
- Within 14 days of buying. As a UK consumer you have a legal right to cancel a contract for digital content or a digital service within 14 days, without giving a reason. A free trial costs nothing, so nothing is due until it ends. Apple and Google run the purchase and refund process (below), and nothing in these terms takes this right away.
- Apple: ask Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple's Media Services Terms give UK customers a 14-day right to cancel. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases.
- Google Play: ask Google Play first (support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637). If Google Play's window has passed, email us at support@getbuggo.app; we can refund Google Play purchases where the law or these terms say you should get one.
- From January 2027 (DMCC Act 2024, once the rules start). When a free trial turns into a paid subscription, and after each yearly renewal, you will also have a 14-day renewal cooling-off period to cancel, with a refund of the amount paid less a proportionate amount for any Passport+ you used in that time. Until the rules start, Apple's and Google's own refund routes apply.
7.7 If Passport+ ends, you keep everything
Your Memories, Plans, Albums and Postcards stay. You go back to the free weekly counts for new things, you can't add more than three Memories to a Chapter that already has more, and the BUGGO mark comes back on new Stamps.
7.8 Founding Families
In some neighbourhoods we give Passport+ free for a year to a Family that Buggs 5 places there — each while at the place (within 250 metres) — within 90 days of the neighbourhood opening. We will say where this applies. It does not renew automatically and never turns into a paid subscription.
7.9 Price changes
If we raise the price, the store will tell you in advance and, where its rules require, ask you to agree. The new price applies from your next renewal. If you don't want to pay it, cancel before then.
8. BUGGO AI
- BUGGO AI is off until you switch it on. You can switch it off at any time in Settings or Family › Privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what is sent to AI providers and what is kept.
- AI answers are made by an AI model from what families have Bugged, the weather, and for some place questions, what Google Maps says. They are labelled "Suggested by BUGGO AI". They are suggestions, not facts or advice: they can be wrong, incomplete or out of date — for example opening hours, whether a changing table is still there, or whether a route is step-free. Check before you go.
- BUGGO AI does not give medical, safety or legal advice. Don't rely on it for your children's health or safety.
- Album stories and Postcard captions are written by AI from your Family's own Buggs, Stickers, Plans and Trips. Read them before you share them; you can ask for another version.
- Please don't put names, health details or anything private into questions.
- Free families get three Ask Bugg answers a week; Passport+ families have no weekly count but may still meet a daily fair-use limit that stops misuse.
9. Google Maps
BUGGO includes Google Maps features and content: the map, place search, place details, place photos and reviews shown as Google wrote them, walking routes, and some AI answers about places. By using these features you agree to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Google's content belongs to Google (or its providers), is shown with Google's attribution, and may not be copied out of BUGGO.
A place's name, picture and city in BUGGO are chosen by the families who Bugg it, not by Google. Where we show the name Google has for a place, we say so ("On Google Maps: …").
10. The app licence and our content
10.1 If you got BUGGO from the App Store
The app is licensed to you under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA"), between you and us as the app's provider. It covers your right to install and use the app on Apple devices you own or control, and what you may not do with the app software. These terms cover the BUGGO service on top. If the Apple EULA and these terms disagree about the app licence, the Apple EULA wins. For everything else — your account, your content, Passport+, BUGGO AI, Google Maps, our responsibility to you and the law that applies — these terms apply. Nothing in either document takes away your rights under UK consumer law, including the parts of the Apple EULA about warranties, a $50 limit on liability and California law, which may not apply to you as a UK consumer.
10.2 If you got BUGGO from Google Play or anywhere else
Google Play's terms apply to how you get the app. Where the Apple EULA doesn't apply, we give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use the BUGGO app on devices you own or control, for your own family's non-commercial use, while you keep to these terms. You may not, except as the law allows: copy, change or make new works from the app; take it apart or try to get its source code; rent, lend, sell, sublicense or share the app itself; or remove our or Google's names, marks or notices. This licence ends when these terms end (section 13).
10.3 Our content
The BUGGO name, the Bugg mascot, Stickers, artwork and the app are ours or our licensors'. You may share Postcards and Album PDFs you make, for your personal use, including on social media, with the BUGGO mark and link left on.
11. Things we can't promise
- Family Scores, amenities, notes and AI answers come from other families and from AI. We don't visit places and can't guarantee what you'll find there.
- You are responsible for your children's safety. Check that a place is suitable, accessible and safe for your family before and during a visit.
- We work hard to keep BUGGO running, but it may sometimes be unavailable or have faults, and some features (for example place details from Google, or BUGGO AI) may be limited for a while.
- BUGGO needs a data connection, location for some features, and a supported phone and operating system.
12. Our responsibility to you
- If you pay for Passport+, you have legal rights: it must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality, and our service must be provided with reasonable care and skill. If it isn't, contact us and we will put it right; if we can't, you may be entitled to a price reduction or refund. These terms do not affect those rights. Citizens Advice can explain them.
- If digital content we supply damages your phone or other digital content because we did not use reasonable care and skill, we will repair the damage or pay you compensation, whether or not you pay for Passport+.
- We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses — BUGGO is for personal and family use.
- We are not responsible for what other families post or do, including at a Plan, except where we have failed to act on a report as these terms say we will, or where the law makes us responsible.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
13. Ending your account
- You can leave at any time. Delete your account in the app (Settings › Delete my family and account). This deletes your Family, children, Trips, Buggs, Plans you made, Memories and Postcards, as our Privacy Policy explains. It cannot be undone. Remember to cancel Passport+ in the store as well.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms seriously or repeatedly, if the law requires it, or to protect other families. Unless it is urgent or unlawful to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to explain. If we close an account with paid Passport+ time left for a reason other than your serious breach, we will refund the unused part.
- If we close BUGGO, we will give you at least 60 days' notice, a way to save your Memories, and a refund of any paid Passport+ time you have left.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. For a material change we post the new Terms with a new date and a notice on our website at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using BUGGO and delete your account; if the change is to Passport+ and is to your disadvantage, you can cancel and get a refund for any whole period you have paid for but not received.
15. The legal bits
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim there, and you keep the protections of your local law.
- If a court decides part of these terms can't be used, the rest still applies.
- Only you and we have rights under these terms. (If you got BUGGO from the App Store, the Apple EULA has its own rules about Apple's rights.) We may transfer our rights and duties to another person or company that takes over BUGGO; we will tell you, and your rights won't be reduced. You may not transfer yours.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- Questions or complaints: hello@getbuggo.app, or by post to [POSTAL ADDRESS]. We aim to reply within 5 working days. If we can't resolve a complaint, you can contact Citizens Advice (0808 223 1133) or go to court. We are not signed up to a consumer alternative dispute resolution scheme.
